Lakpura® Piti Gotu

Piti Gotta is a cone shaped traditional strainer. It is a handmade, eco-friendly tool made out of a mix of cane and bamboo strips. In a Sri Lankan kitchen, its primary job is to ensure that flour is light, airy, and free of lumps before it is mixed with water or coconut. Before making Pittu or String Hoppers, the rice flour is passed through the Piti Gotta to remove coarse, grains or impurities. This ensures the final texture is soft and consistent. It is frequently used to strain freshly squeezed coconut milk to remove any stray bits of coconut husk or the leftover scrapings. Also it can be used to lightly dust flour over a surface or to strain tea leaves in a pinch, though there are usually smaller strainers specifically for tea.
